The Latest from The Lake Writer | March 2016

by in Smith Mountain Lake Blog

I had a friend say to me last week, “Girl, you’re on a roll. I’m seeing you everywhere.”

As a freelancer, work tends to be feast or famine and, thankfully, I’ve been in chow-down mode the past few months. Here’s a little roundup of recent work, new clients and other random things.

Big projects publish

Smith Mountain Lake HOME 2016I had the pleasure of working on two of the most recognizable and well-respected publications in the Smith Mountain Lake market in 2015, both of which published recently.

You can pick up the 2016 issue of Smith Mountain Lake HOME magazine in spots all around the lake, including Capps, Kroger and both local libraries. It includes a look inside some pretty stunning SML homes, along with a ton of other interesting content. Don’t miss the 50 ideas for lake home and garden article.

SML Chamber Guide 2016The 2016 issue of the Smith Mountain Lake Visitor and Newcomer Guide is now available at the SML Visitor Center at Bridgewater Plaza. Produced by LeisureMedia360, it also has a 50th anniversary spin. Read it online or order a free hard copy.

Additional opportunities

Anstey Hodge Advertising Group in Roanoke hired me for several website copywriting jobs for the company’s niche, senior living communities, including Kirby Pines in Memphis.

Carilion Clinic Living | Spring 2016Charlottesville HOME magazine’s newest issue includes an article by yours truly on what’s trending in real estate. Similar stories are set to appear in Roanoke Valley HOME and Central Virginia HOME.

For the spring issue of Carilion Clinic Living, I wrote about the healthcare organization’s new $30 million, 117,000-square-foot Institute for Orthopaedics and Neurosciences.

For the fall 2015 issue, I profiled Dr. Jon Maher, a former team physician for Harvard athletics and the Boston Celtics now practicing in the New River Valley. I also contributed an inspiring story on auto accident survivor Steven Myers.

New clients

I’m thrilled to be working with two new SML-area clients, Take Pride in Smith Mountain Lake and Bridgewater Marina and Boat Rentals. I’ll be handling public relations and social media for both. Likes and follows greatly appreciated!

Other cool stuff

I was a recent guest for a podcast called Lakeside Chat with Shey Harms, a fellow lake lover who manages the website LakeAuthority.com. In it, I discuss all things Smith Mountain Lake, including accommodations, restaurants, real estate, shopping and activities. Listen here. (Warning, it’s about 45 minutes!)

Who Stole My Spandex? I continue to edit and proofread books. Some of my most enjoyable recent titles include, Who Stole My Spandex by Marcia Kester Doyle, The Killing Cure: Heal by C.S. Kendall and Magic Fishing Panties by Kimberly Dalferes. All available on Amazon.com.

AirportParkingHelper.com, my entrepreneurial venture with Jennifer Church, continues to grow and prosper. Read more about the site on this previous blog post or check us out on Facebook and Twitter. We’ll be announcing some really cool news in May so consider subscribing to our email newsletter so you’ll be among the first to know.

As always, thank you for your support!
